MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's golf team finished 12th in the field as the final round of the Gopher Invitational took place Monday at the Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.

"I was certainly disappointed in the way we finished," head coach Justin Smith said. "We did not finish well last week at Erin Hills and we finished worse this week, so we need to analyze the data to figure out why we are not playing our best in the last round when it matters most. That is on me as a coach to make sure the team is more prepared for the final round and we look forward to the next event so we can fix these mistakes and become a better team."

The Gophers posted a +23, 307 on Monday to finish 30 shots over par for the tournament at 882 (293-282-307).

Kansas and Notre Dame captured a tie for the team title with a tournament score of 838 (-14) to hold off third place Michigan State (847) and fourth place Kent State (849). Luke Kluver of Kansas was the individual champion after shooting 10-under (67-70-66--203).

Senior Lincoln Johnson was the top finisher for the Gophers in a tie for 31st (74-70-73--217). Johnson's day was highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 12th hole. Harrison Arnold followed closely behind at 6-over par and finished in a tie for 41st (74-70-77-221). Arnold's three birdies led the team in round three.

Eduardo Galdos was next up on the leaderboard after he tied for 56th (78-71-78--227). The freshman shot a 1-over front nine, but ran into trouble with three bogeys and a triple bogey on the back nine to go 7-over on the day. Connor Glynn carded a 79 in his third round to place 72nd (79-76-79--234). Antoine Sale was disqualified from the round due to a scorecard error.

In addition to the five Gophers in the lineup, Minnesota also had five individual competitors in the field, including Ben Warian, Will Grevlos, Harry Plowman-Ollington, Bennett Swavely and Alex Eickhoff

Warian led the pack of the individual competitors as he tied for 31st with a 4-over total of 217 (73-73-71). Grevlos was five shots behind with a total of 222 (73-72-77). He was 6-over on Monday to tie for 45th. Plowman-Ollington also tied for 45th (75-72-75).

Bennett Swavely posted a 5-over score of 76 on Monday. He came in tied for 48th overall with a 223 (75-72-76). Alex Eichoff finished the home event in a tie for 54th after shooting 226 (77-71-78).

The Gophers will have a two week break from competition before traveling to Sugar Grove, Ill. to compete in the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate on Oct 2-4.
