About the Buckeyes
Ohio State (2-0-0) opened the 2021-22 season with two home wins over WCHA newcomers St. Thomas. The Buckeyes saw their 2020-21 season come to an end in the NCAA semifinal, falling to eventual NCAA champion Wisconsin by a score of 3-2. The Buckeyes posted an overall record of 13-7-0 and finished third in the WCHA regular-season standings. The 2021-22 season marks head coach, and 2020 WCHA Coach of the Year, Nadine Muzerall's sixth year at the helm of the program. The Buckeyes have 10 newcomers, made up of two freshmen and eight transfers, joining 15 returners to make up this year's roster.

Scoring Milestones on the Horizon
Taylor Heise, Minnesota's active career scoring leader, is closing in on 100 career points (38g-56a). Amy Potomak (32g-44a) and Emily Brown (16g-55a) are approaching 80 career points while Emily Oden (18g-44a) and Olivia Knowles (14g-45a) are both closing in on 70 career points.

Return of Non-Conference
After exclusively playing WCHA conference games in 2020-21, the Gophers are set to face three non-conference opponents this season, with the possibility of a fourth. Minnesota will travel to Colgate, host RIT, and square off against Mercyhurst, and potentially Boston College, in the Smashville Showcase.

Who's New?
Nine newcomers join the Gophers for the 2021-22 season in forward Sadie Lindsay (Minnetonka, Minn./Breck School), defense Emily Zumwinkle (Excelsior, Minn./Breck School), defense Olivia Arkell (Stillwater, Minn./Hamline), forward Peyton Hemp (Andover, Minn./Andover High School), forward Emma Conner (Edina, Minn./Edina High School), forward Tristana Tatur (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove High School), forward Ella Huber (Northfield, Ill./Chicago Mission), forward Savannah Norcross (Lynn, Mass./Boston College), and goaltender Skylar Vetter (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North High School).

Who's Back?
Head coach Brad Frost returns for his 15th season at the helm of the program with a .776 winning percentage in his first 14 seasons. The Gophers returned 18 players from last year's squad, including three of the WCHA's top-25 scorers from a year ago in Taylor Heise, Emily Oden, and Emily Brown. Emily Brown heads into this year fresh off of two seasons being ranked in the top-three of conference blue-liners in scoring. Brown ranked second among WCHA defense with 27 points (4g-23a) in 2019-20 and third in 2020-21 with 12 points (3g-9a). Fifth-year goaltender Lauren Bench, who led the team in wins, games played, and shutouts in 2020-21, is also back.

The Gophers also return eight of Minnesota's top-10 scorers from 2020-21. Senior Taylor Heise (7g-9a), senior Emily Oden (2g-12a), and fifth-year Emily Brown (3g-9a) all eclipsed the 12 point mark in only 20 games.
