1/23/2022 2:00:00 PM | Gymnastics

The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team is back in action at Maturi Pavilion on Monday night to take on reigning national champion Michigan and kick off the Big Ten Conference season. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. CT and television coverage is provided by the Big Ten Network.

Last Time Out
Minnesota opened the 2022 regular season on a high note as the team defeated both No. 9 Iowa and UCLA. The Gophers posted a 196.900 team score, Iowa finished in second place with 195.950 and UCLA was in third after scoring 194.850. Minnesota's victory marked the first win over UCLA in program history.

Lexy Ramler won the all-around title with a score of 39.700. Her top tallies of the night came on bars and beam, where she recorded a 9.950 on each apparatus. Ona Loper finished second in the all-around competition, led by her 9.950 on vault.

In attendance to cheer the Maroon and Gold on to victory were 3,887 fans, a new regular season meet record. The previous attendance record was 3,112, set when Minnesota hosted Arizona State on March 3, 2018.

Gophers in the Rankings
With the first competition of the season coming last Monday for the Gophers, they have yet to be featured in the RoadToNationals rankings. Their first appearance will come in the week three rankings to be released on Monday, January 24.

B1G Weekly Honors
Ramler was awarded her first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award of the season after a spectacular performance in Minnesota's win over Iowa and UCLA. It was the 19th time Ramler earned the award in her career, extending her own conference record in that category.

Scouting Michigan
Michigan remains the No. 1 team nationally, while also leading the nation on both vault and floor exercise. The Wolverines rank in the top five on all four events, coming in at No. 3 on the uneven bars and No. 5 on the balance beam.

Six individuals rank in the top 15 across all four events with senior Natalie Wojcik being the nation's top athlete on the uneven bars and balance beam, while Gabby Wilson and Abby Brenner tie for third on floor exercise and Heiskell ranks third on the beam.

For the Fans
All individuals - regardless of vaccination status - are required to wear a mask or face covering that fully covers both the mouth and nose while indoors. The lone exception is when an individual is actively eating or drinking.

Single meet parking is available day of meet and can be purchased at each designated parking location. The recommended single match parking areas are the University Avenue Ramp, 4th Street Parking Ramp, Lot 37, and Lot 58.
