Gophers Headed to Wisconsin's Nuttycombe Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's and women's cross country teams are headed to the 2022 Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, October 14, with the women competing in a 6K event and the men running an 8K race in Madison, Wis. The competition will serve as the Gophers final meet away from home before the postseason begins at the end of October. 

ABOUT THE NUTTYCOMBE INVITATIONAL
A total of 15 of Minnesota's finest will compete on the women's side while the men will have eight competitors race at Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis. The women will begin competition at 12:20 p.m. with the men's race following at 1 p.m. The races can be followed live on PTTiming.com and also can be watched on Runnerspace.com. POSTSEASON IMPLICATIONS IN MADISON
The University of Minnesota will be looking to earn some important postseason qualifying points on Friday afternoon. With a total of 13 teams currently ranked inside the top two in various regions on the women's side, along with five ranked third, the Gophers will have ample opportunities to pick up qualifying points for the NCAA Championships later this year. On the men's side there are 11 teams currently ranked inside the top two in their regions with an additional six ranked third. 

YOUNG GOPHERS CONTINUE TO SET LIFETIME BESTS
The University of Minnesota cross country programs have had new faces to cheer on throughout the 2022 season, many of them young or new to the program. Through October 13, the Gophers have seen 18 different women and 11 different men post new lifetime best performances with the women's coming in the 6K and the men in the 8K. In total between the men and women's teams 76.3 percent of the roster has posted at least one lifetime best this season. 


GOPHERS IN THE RANKINGS
The Minnesota women receiving votes in the latest USTFCCCA national rankings, announced Monday, October 3. In the regional rankings the women's squad sits at No. 6 in the Midwest Region. The men's team sits at No. 12 in the Midwest Regional rankings. 

ON THE DOCKET
Following Friday's events, Minnesota returns home for a final tune up at 2022 Rocky's Run event on Oct. 22. The event will serve as the last competition before the 2022 Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. Rocky's Run is an open 6K event with all proceeds going to the Rocky Racette Scholarship Fund.
