Gophers Complete Regular Season Road Schedule in Madison

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota cross country team competed at the 2022 Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison at the Zimmer Championship Course on Friday afternoon. True freshman Ali Weimer was the top women's finisher while Emmet Anderson was the top individual for the men. 

Weimer, who finished 104th overall in the loaded field that featured 43 ranked teams combined, was the top Big Ten freshman at the event, out pacing five other freshmen. Weimer overall was the seventh-fastest true freshman overall in her 6K time of 20:56.0. 

Behind Weimer was Anastasia Korzenowski (137), Emma Atkinson (178), Taylor Kreitinger (190) and Erin Reidy (197). Others who competed for the Golden Gophers were Brianne Brewster (231) and Liesl Paulsen (248). 

The men saw four of their five top finishers post personal best times on Friday with Anderson's 24:43.3 leading the way to finish 186th overall in the 8K event. Noah Kohut-Jackson, brother of former Gopher Abby Kohut-Jackson, had his best showing as a Gopher with a personal best 8K time of 24:47.0 to finish 191st. 

Other personal bests among the top five for Minnesota was Seth Eliason who has continued to improve this season at 24:56.7 while Leo Goodman posted a time of 25:15.3 to continue his development. Minnesota's remaining competitors were Matt Lepine (209), Eli Hoeft (232) and John Quigley (234). 

Stanford was able to capture the men's title with Ky Robinson winning the race for the Cardinal in a time of 23:09.9 ahead of runner-up Nico Young of Northern Arizona. Katelyn Tuohy ran to the women's individual title for NC State, helping the Wolfpack edge New Mexico for the team title on a tiebreaker. 

The Maroon & Gold will return home for one final tune up before the postseason begins at the end of October. Rocky's Run, which is an open event to the public, will be contested on Oct. 22, at Les Bolstad Course starting at 10 a.m.
