Gophers Finish 8th, 10th, at Big Ten Championships

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota cross country program ran to an eighth-place women's finish and a 10th-place men's finish at the 2022 Big Ten Cross Country Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. True freshman Ali Weimer was the top individual women's finisher at 18th with Emmet Anderson topping the men's competitors in 52nd.
Weimer's 18th-place finish made her the top freshman finisher at the event among the 149 competitors. Her time of 20:41.00 goes down as a lifetime best in the 6K distance, beating her previous time by one second.
Following Weimer the Gophers saw sophomore Emma Atkinson finish second on the team and 36th overall. Prior to Friday Atkinson's best finish at the Big Ten Championships was 62nd back in 2020. Erin Reidy came in third for the Gophers and 44th overall. After only competing in one cross country competition before this season, Reidy made a big impact for the Maroon and Gold in a time of 21:14.60, six seconds faster than her previous lifetime best in the 6K.
Rounding out the Gophers scorers in Ann Arbor was Taylor Kreitinger and Brianne Brewster in 55th and 61st, respectively.
The men's team was led by Anderson's time of 25:14.30, which helped him finish 52nd overall. Noah Kohut-Jackson continued his fall improvement with a time of 25:32.20, putting him in 65th overall. Minnesota's top five finishers were rounded out by Seth Eliason (71st), Matt Lepine (74th) and Willem Landis (90th).
NCAA season lies ahead for the Maroon and Gold, as both the men's and women's teams will head to Columbia, Mo., on Friday, Nov. 11 for the NCAA Midwest Regionals. The University of Missouri will play host to the Regional Championships, and will hold both races on the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
