MINNEAPOLIS ā The No. 25 Minnesota women's swimming and diving team is back home Friday for a dual meet with Iowa.Ā
Competition starts at 5 p.m. at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center, and admission is free. A stream of the event can be found on B1G+ (paid subscription required), while live scoring will be available on GopherSports.com and the Meet Mobile app (paid subscription required).
Fans should be aware that the University of Minnesota is hosting four separate athletic competitions on campus on Friday, so the recommendation is to plan ahead and arrive on campus at least 45 minutes prior to the event to help ensure that they will not miss a moment of action.
The Gopher women are 5-1 on the dual meet season, including 1-1 in the Big Ten. They opened the season with victories over Nebraska, South Dakota, SMU, St. Thomas and South Dakota State, but fell last Friday at Wisconsin.
Junior Megan Van Berkom has been the top performer for the women this season, posting the top time in four separate events: 500 free (4:54.43), 200 fly, 200 IM (2:00.20) and 400 IM. Her times of 1:58.13 in the 200 fly and 4:16.69 in the 400 IM are both NCAA 'B' cuts.
Sophomore Hannah Cornish (50, 100 and 200 free), seniors Joy Zhu (1- and 3-meter diving) and Emma Lezer (100 and 200 breast), and junior Paula Rodriguez Rivero (100 and 200 back) have also posted the top results in multiple events. In fact, Zhu has been the Big Ten Diver of the Week three times already this season, winning each event in which she's competed this season.
In addition, seniorĀ Kate Sullivan (1000 free), and freshman Ava Yablonski (100 fly) both have the top times in their respective events.
Iowa is 1-1 on the dual meet season as the Hawkeyes opened the season with a win at Northern Iowa before falling at home to Nebraska last month. Iowa entered the season with seven returning athletes and 14 newcomers, including three transfers.
