Minnesota’s five-game unbeaten streak against Wisconsin comes to a close on Sunday.
MADISON, Wis. – The No. 1/2 Golden Gopher women's hockey team suffered its first loss in conference play this season, 4-1 at No. 3 Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon at LaBahn Arena.
Minnesota (9-2-2) fell behind early for the second time in this series as Wisconsin (11-2-1) scored on the game's first power play with 5:09 left in the first. Taylor Heise answered with a power play goal of her own 2:03 later to tie things up after the opening period. The Badgers' Wozniewicz tallied the lone goal in the second period with 2:54 remaining in the middle frame. Wisconsin tallied two more goals in the third period to secure the victory.
Sophomore Skylar Vetter made 36 saves in her second loss of the season. Wisconsin's Cami Kronish stopped 26 shots after entering the game in relief early in the first period.
Quotable
"Another good game but not the outcome that we wanted," said head coach Brad Frost. "Some turnovers and bad changes really cost us today. These are things that we can learn from when you play a really good team and are in transition often times."
Notable
• Minnesota's unbeaten streak against Wisconsin comes to an end at five games – the fourth longest in program history.
• The Gophers suffer their first regulation road defeat since Jan. 30, 2021 (23 games).
• With a goal today, Taylor Heise extended her point streak to seven games – the longest active streak on the team.
Up Next
Minnesota will head out west to compete in the Henderson Collegiate Hockey Showcase on Nov. 25-26. The Gophers will face Penn State at 6:00 pm CT on Friday before facing either Boston University or Yale on Saturday.
