MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota men's and women's swimming and diving teams each suffered their first losses of the dual meet season Friday at Wisconsin. The No. 25 Gopher men's team fell to the 20th-ranked Badger men, 181-117, while the No. 25 Gopher women's team dropped its contest to the 16th-ranked Badger women, 172-128.

The Golden Gophers got 11 victories on the day with six on the men's side and five for the women.

For the men, fifth-year senior captain Max McHugh swept the breaststroke and recorded a pair of 'B' cuts in the process. He won the 100 breast in a time of 53.43 then posted a time of 2:13.79 to win the 200 breast.

Junior Kaiser Neverman also swept his individual events, taking home first place in the butterfly. His time of 47.94 was good for first in the 100 fly, while his 1:46.96 performance in the 200 fly was a season best for the Gophers and just .65 off a 'B' cut.

The men's team's other individual wins went to sophomore Bar Soloveychik, who touched first in the 200 free in a season-best time of 1:37.49, and freshman diver Drew Bennett who set a career-high of 360.30 on the 3-meter, nearly 64 points better than his competition.

The women's team saw multiple victories from junior Megan Van Berkom and fifth-year senior Joy Zhu, while sophomore Hannah Cornish picked up another individual win.

Van Berkom scored a pair of victories in the 200 fly and the 200 IM. Her time of 1:58.13 improved on her NCAA 'B' cut in the event by over a second, while her 200 IM effort of 2:00.20 was a season best for Minnesota.

Zhu remained undefeated in the diving well this year. She was the top performer on the 3-meter board as her score of 336.45 was 40 points better than second place, while her score of 301.80 on the 1-meter was over 24 points ahead of the field.

Cornish, meanwhile, was the fastest swimmer in the 50 free (22.94).

The Gopher women are back in action next Friday at home against Iowa, while the men's team is off from competition until the Minnesota Invitational, which starts Nov. 30 and runs through Dec. 4.
