Gophers Rebound with 4-0 Win Over Memphis

Minnesota goes 2-0 in doubles, wins three singles matches en route to victory
Resuming their road trip, Minnesota tennis squared off against the Memphis Tigers in Tuscaloosa, AL. On Saturday afternoon, the Gophers earned their eleventh win on the season, 4-0. After losing for the first time this season last Sunday, Minnesota regained momentum and will look to begin a new win streak. With this victory, the Gophers are 4-0 in neutral site matches. Memphis falls to 0-2 on the weekend, after their 1-4 loss to Alabama on Friday.
Minnesota won both doubles matches, and all three singles competitions which finished.
In doubles play, Emilee Duong and Ekin Ercetin battled with Aran Teixido Garcia and Emily Meyer, in a back and forth match. Clutch shots down the stretch secured a 7-5 victory for the Gophers pair. At No. 3, the freshmen duo of Lucy Lu and Maria Rizzolo outlasted Camila Soares and Monique Woog, earning a tiebreaker win to secure the point. The No. 2 match went unfinished due to prior results.
In singles, the Gophers posted victories at the No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 positions.
At No. 6, Dalila Said started strong with a straight set victory, 6-4, 6-4. Maria Rizzolo used a strong third set to best Emily Reyer 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Anfisa Danilchenko rounded out the match at No. 5, with her 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win against Meredith Jones. The remaining singles contests went unfinished, as the Gophers defeated the Tigers 4-0.

Minnesota is back in action tomorrow, as they take on Alabama in their final non-conference match of the regular season. First serve will take place at 11:00 a.m. The hosts defeated Memphis on Friday, 4-1, improving to 8-0 on the year. The Gophers will look to take the series lead against Alabama, as they have split their previous meetings. Their most recent matchup came nearly 20 years ago, as they met in 2003.
