Minnesota Falls to Alabama in Tuscaloosa

Gophers drop road match, 2-4
On Sunday, Minnesota women's tennis took on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Each team looked to continue momentum following a victory against the Memphis Tigers. The hosts prevailed by a score of 2-4, as they improved to 9-0 on the season, eight of their wins coming in Tuscaloosa. The Gophers dropped to 11-2, finishing the weekend at 1-1. Minnesota will resume play in less than two weeks, as they oppose Nebraska and Iowa.
Minnesota went 1-2 in doubles matches, and 2-3 in completed singles competitions. They earned a victory at No. 2 doubles, in addition to No. 4 and No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Alabama won at positions No. 1 and No. 3, securing the point for the Crimson Tide. At No. 2, Dalila Said and Anfisa Danilchenko earned their fourth win on the year as a pair, improving to 4-1.
In singles, the Gophers posted victories at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions. Ekin Ercetin and Maria Rizzolo each lost close matches, where the sets finished two games apart, in favor of Alabama. At No. 4, Vasia Karvouni beat Anna Parkhomenko in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Dalila Said defeated Kasia Pitak with strong first and third set wins at No. 6. The match ended with Anne Marie Hiser winning over Anfisa Danilchenko, despite a strong second set for the Gopher freshman. The No. 1 match went unfinished due to previous results.
