Gophers Prepare for Weekend Matches Against Nebraska and Iowa

Minnesota continues their road trip with visits to Lincoln and Iowa City
After completing their non-conference slate in Alabama, the University of Minnesota tennis team turns their attention to familiar foes. Their 11 wins are the highest total posted in the Big Ten, as they will look to continue momentum into this weekend. Minnesota earned wins against No. 48 Memphis and No. 70 Florida Gulf Coast, as they created a record setting start to the season.
The Gophers open their account in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, before heading to Iowa City on Monday. Saturday's matchup will feature two ranked teams, as the Gophers sit at No. 45, and the Cornhuskers come in at No. 67 in the most recent ITA poll. Minnesota's trip to Iowa City will mark their second visit of the season, as they competed there in October, participating in the ITA Central Regional.

Minnesota is coming off a split weekend of results in Tuscaloosa. They opened the weekend with a 4-0 victory over No. 48 Memphis. After earning the doubles point, the Gophers closed out three consecutive singles wins. They next took on No. 41 Alabama, the hard fought match ended 2-4 in favor of the hosts.
The Competition
Nebraska is 5-4 on the year, and 5-2 in home matches. The Cornhuskers most recently played Kansas State, a 4-1 win for the visiting Wildcats. Minnesota leads the series record 16-10 against Nebraska. Each team has defeated South Dakota and Memphis in their non-conference matches this season. Minnesota will look to defeat Nebraska for the first time since 2019, and earn their first win in Lincoln since 2014.
Iowa is 4-4 this season, unbeaten on the year in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes have lost three straight matches, two coming against ranked opponents. They have won each of their common opponent matchups with Minnesota, defeating both Drake and Marquette. Monday will mark the 69th matchup between the two schools, with Minnesota leading the all-time series, 42-26.
