2/23/2022 4:27:00 PM | Men's Track & Field, Women's Track & Field

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's track & field team is back in action competing at the Big Ten Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships this week.

About the 2022 Big Ten Indoor Championships
The 2022 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships will be spread out over two days from Feb. 25-26 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Minnesota will have competitors competing as early as 10:30 a.m. CT on Friday in the women's pole vault and women's shot put. Other field events being contested on Friday include the women's long jump along with the final of the 3000m and the women's DMR. The rest of the scored events will be completed on Saturday after Friday's trials. The Gophers earliest competition on Saturday will be at 10 a.m. in the women's high jump. The meet will conclude with the 4x400m relays at 3:20 and 3:35 p.m. CT with an awards presentation following at 3:50 p.m. CT. Live results are available via Delta Timing, and live video is available online via BTN+ with championship coverage airing on the Big Ten Network at a later date.

Last Time Out: Snowshoe Open
The University of Minnesota track and field team earned 18 event titles at the 2022 Snowshoe Open on Feb. 18, at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse in Minneapolis, Minn. The day was highlighted by Shelby Frank in the women's weight throw, throwing the fifth-best mark in school history and the No. 2 mark in the Big Ten this season just a week out from the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Frank, who is in her second season in the Maroon and Gold uniform, tossed a mark of 21.30m (69-10 3/4) to claim the victory in the event over the likes of teammate Tess Keyzers (19.99m). Frank's mark improves her to No. 5 on Minnesota's all-time indoor top 10 list, moving up from the No. 6 spot. The personal best toss improves the sophomores standing to No. 23 in the nation heading into the  postseason. The top 16 make the NCAA Indoor Championships, which currently is 21.69m (Angel Nkwonta, Maryland). Minnesota's other best nationally ranked performance on Friday came in the form of freshman high jumper Nyalaam Jok at 1.78m (5-10). Jok, who has leaped over 1.77m or higher four times this season, is currently ranked No. 34 in the nation and No. 5 in the Big Ten.

The Golden Gophers Ranked in the Big Ten
Heading into the Big Ten Indoor Championships the Gophers have a total of 22 marks this season that are currently ranked inside the conference's top eight. The top eight in each event score team points with each of the top three earning medals for their performance. Official heat sheets will be provided later on Thursday, Feb. 24. Some of Minnesota's top performers this season headed into the indoor conference meet include: Amira Young (7.32 - 60m, 23.62 - 200m), Jayla Campbell (53.97 - 400m), Bethany Hasz (9:02.34 - 3000m, 15:49.62, 5000m), 4x400m relay (3:32.94) Nyalaam Jok (1.78m - High Jump), Tiera Robinson-Jones (12.54m - Triple Jump), Devia Brown (17.08m - Shot Put), Shelby Frank (21.30m - Weight Throw) and Tess Keyzers (21.05m - Weight Throw).

2020 B1G Indoor Championships Rewind
A year ago, the Golden Gopher women's track & field team won eight events on the way to winning the 2021 Big Ten Conference team title. Led by multiple individual titles from Amira Young on the final day of competition, the Maroon & Gold scored 138 points to cruise to the team title at the 2021 Big Ten Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The team win marked Minnesota's fifth indoor and eighth overall Big Ten championship in women's track & field. Along with Young's two titles in the 60 meters and 200 meters, Abigail Schaaffe won the 600 meters and joined Jayla CampbellJanielle Josephs, and Val Larson to win the 4x400-meter relay on Saturday. During the first two days of competition, Allison Gerads (pentathlon), Bethany Hasz (3,000 meters), and Tess Keyzers (weight throw), and the distance medley relay team of Anastasia Korzenowski, Larson, Libby Halbmaier, and Abby Kohut-Jackson all finished as event champions as well.
