Minnesota Finishes Big Ten Match Play with Tie Against Nebraska, Victory over Maryland

The University of Minnesota men's golf team finished the Big Ten Match Play with two rounds of play on Saturday at the Hammock Beach Resort Ocean Course in Palm Coast, Florida.
In the first match of the day, Minnesota tied with Nebraska, 2-2-1. The Gophers finished the event with a 3-2-0 victory over Maryland in the final round of the event.
"I am really proud of our guys for how they battled today in really tough conditions," head coach Justin Smith said. "This is a big day for our team development and how we responded to a tough loss yesterday. We are excited to get back to work and prepare for our next opportunity."

Senior Lincoln Johnson jumped ahead early against Branden Meyer and never faltered, leading the head-to-head match throughout the entire 18 holes. Johnson claimed a 2UP victory over Meyer.
After leading early, Antoine Sale fell behind Caleb Badura of Nebraska in the middle of the round. Sale mounted a comeback in the final three holes to tie and take the lead over Badura to win, 2UP.

Sophomore Ben Warian never trailed in his individual match against Dhaivat Pandya and finished with a 3&2 win over his Terrapin counterpart. It was his second individual victory of the tournament, as he also defeated Gonzalo Leal from Iowa in the first round of competition on Friday.
Will Grevlos battled back and forth with Chris Tanabe the entire match before jumping ahead in the final two holes of play, winning 2UP.
Freshman Bennett Swavely defeated Florian Huerlimann in dominant fashion, never trailing and winning his match, 3&1.

After a one month hiatus, the Gophers will return to action at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C. on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8.
