Minnesota Posts Top-15 Finish at UCF Challenge

Junior Emma Carpenter posted her third straight round of even-par or better as the University of Minnesota women's golf team closed out the UCF Challenge at the Eagle Creek Golf Club on Tuesday Morning.Ā
The Gophers, who recorded a 288 team score in the final round, finished the tournament in 12th place with a 291-287-288ā866 score for the event.Ā
Sixth-ranked Wake Forest won the tournament with a 277-269-273ā819 tournament score. Demon Deacon freshman Carolina Chacarra (69-66-62ā197) topped the individual leaderboard with a 10-under-par 62 in the final round.

"This is a huge result for our program, and I am so proud of these athletes," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "They'veĀ truly bought into our vision and the results are evident. We had some awesome individual finishes this week highlighted by Emma's top-25 in a deep field. Our 12th place finish in a field this deep is a 'W' for us and sets the tone for a great spring season. After shooting an even-par 72 in the final round of play, Carpenter secured her career-best tournament score of 213. Her previous best was 224 at the Indiana Spring Challenge during the 2021 season. Carpenter finished this week's UCF Challenge in a tie for 25th (72-69-72ā213).Ā
Next on the leaderboard for the Maroon and Gold was senior Joanne Free, tying for 45th (73-72-72ā217) in the field with an even-par final round. She finished with a trio of birdies and a trio of bogeys on the day.Ā
Senior Geraldine Wong ended the tournament tied for 51st (72-73-73ā218). Two strokes behind Wong at four-over for the tournament was Grace Curran. Curran produced a one-under final round with a birdie on No. 1 to tie for 61st (76-73-71ā220).
Leah Herzog rounded out the Gophers lineup in a tie for 93rd (74-80-77ā231).
