Golden Gopher sophomore student-athletes from across sports gathered for a day of programming at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, April 10. During the Sophomore Summit, the L.I.N.K. staff facilitated programming surrounding career exploration, networking, and leadership development with an emphasis on teamwork.

Sophomore SummitThe L.I.N.K. staff was highly impressed by the student-athletes' level of engagement and the rich conversation around the programming. Emily Reinert, Director of Student-Athlete Development shed light on the value of this in-person programming by stating, "It was so great to see student-athletes from a variety of programs gathered together in a way that hasn't been possible during the last two years."

The day began by hearing thoughtful insights from Hall of Fame panelists and Gopher legends - Terry Ganley, Darrell Thompson, and Heather Kampf. Student-athletes learned valuable lessons regarding transferable skills from athlete to workforce, leaving a legacy, and the importance of leadership throughout their career. To build on what those transferable skills look like for each individual student-athlete, they had the opportunity to take the Strong Interest Inventory Assessment that provided them with their top career options based on their selected interests from the assessment. Over the lunch hour, student-athletes were able to network and further their connections withTwin Cities professionals, W.I.L.L. mentors, and Leadership U Advisory Group members.

After enjoying time and company on the field at the stadium, the day wrapped with a case study facilitated by Leadership U and a session on informational interviewing with Jen Callinan, Director of Career Services. During this time, the sophomore student-athletes were able to troubleshoot leadership challenges with their peers from across sport and receive resources to help them prepare for their next steps in their career outside of athletics. Altogether, the day provided the student-athletes tools and resources to become the best leaders they can be.Sophomore Summit

"The student-athletes took advantage of the amazing panel of speakers and the highly successful members of our community during the networking lunch on top of the fantastic content the leaders of the L.I.N.K. put together for this event," Director of Leadership U Dr. Justin Anderson said. The L.I.N.K. staff looks forward to supporting this group of sophomore student-athletes throughout the rest of their careers and future Sophomore Summit events.
