Minnesota visits Bloomington on Saturday, West Lafayette on Sunday
The University of Minnesota tennis team hits the road for the final time this regular season. They conclude the year with a pair of matches in Indiana. On Saturday, the Golden Gophers visit the Hoosiers, first serve will be at 4:00 p.m. They travel to West Lafayette on Sunday, as they square off with the Boilermakers at 12:00 p.m.Â
For the first time this Big Ten season, neither weekend opponent of Minnesota is ranked in the ITA Top 75 poll. Minnesota remains ranked for the ninth consecutive week, placing at No. 60.
Minnesota looks to finish the season strong, currently sitting at 15 wins, 3 in the Big Ten. A pair of wins would tie their total from 2015, as they have already set their best mark in the previous six seasons. Coach Catrina Thompson has achieved her best win total as head coach at Minnesota.
Previous Match
Minnesota concluded their home slate on Sunday, a Senior Day win over the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Gophers continued their doubles success, their 17th time clinching the opening point on the year. Wins at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 secured their eighth win at Baseline Tennis Center. Minnesota closed the year 8-2 at home, including home wins over Michigan State, Rutgers, and Penn State.Â
The Competition
Indiana is 10-2 on the season, 3-6 in Big Ten matches. Their wins have come against Purdue, Iowa, and Rutgers. They won their most recent match, a 4-3 win over the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway. Last season, the two teams met twice, Minnesota winning each fixture. The Gophers have won four of the last five matchups, but trail the all-time series. Saturday's match will be the 50th between the two programs.Â
