MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Golden Gophers (12-27, 2-10 Big Ten) are set to take on the Michigan State Spartans (18-21, 3-9 Big Ten) this weekend on the road. The Spartans sit in 11th place in the Big Ten, compared to 13th place for the Gophers. Both clubs are looking to pick up a few wins this weekend and get back in the race for a top-eight seed and a potential trip to the Big Ten tournament. The two teams will play at 5:35 p.m. Friday followed by Saturday at 3:05 p.m. and Sunday at 12:05 p.m. All games will be streamed on B1G+.
SCOUTING MICHIGANÂ STATE
-Michigan State is led by 14th-year head coach Jake Boss, who holds a 377-323 (.541) record in his time in charge. He's led the team to seven 30-win seasons, including the 2011 Big Ten Championship and 2012 NCAA Tournament.
-In 2022, the Spartans have had an up-and-down season. They started the year by taking three of four at UNLV before falling into a cold slide. MSU went 1-2 at the Cambria College Classic and have lost two of three games in three Big Ten series'. They were swept by Michigan in the fourth conference series.

-He ranks tied for fifth in the Big Ten in home runs (10). 21 of his 30 hits are for extra bases, which is a team-high. Coming into 2022, he hit just seven home runs in his previous three seasons.
-Only three Gophers since 2010 have hit 10-or-more home runs in a season. Stanke is trying to become the first Minnesota player since Nick O'Shea to hit more than 11 home runs in a single season.
GOPHERS GOING THROUGH ROAD WOES

-Redshirt junior Aidan Maldonado brought his best stuff two weeks back in a win over No. 23 Maryland. He battled through 6.0 innings, striking out five and giving up a season-low one earned run.
-He picked up a no-decision, but it's the second time this year he's gone six-or-more innings against a ranked team. Maldonado went 6.0 innings against No. 12 Notre Dame on March 6, striking out five while allowing five hits and just two earned runs.
-Maldonado tallied two more quality starts in a row, at Iowa and vs. PSU. He went 5.1 vs. Iowa, striking out nine, and 7.0 vs. PSU, striking out six.
