MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota track and field saw Kostas Zaltos steal the show on Saturday afternoon in Des Moines in the hammer throw. Zaltos won one of three events for the Maroon and Gold at Drake Stadium.

Zaltos' tossed his new personal best throw in his final attempt 71.95m (236-0), moving him to the No. 2 spot in the nation this season. The mark also improves his mark on Minnesota's outdoor top 10 list where he was already at the second-best spot. Sean Donnelly holds the school record of 74.35m (243-11) back in 2016.

Abigail Schaaffe joined Zaltos with the No. 2 best time in program history in the 400m hurdles. Her 56.90 was good enough for a second-place finish at the meet and puts her at No. 12 in the nation this season in the event and No. 1 in the Big Ten.

Other program top 10 performers at the meet included the Gophers 4x100m relay team consisting of Odell Frye, Akilah Lewis, Lauren Hansen and Amira Young. The quartet combined for a time of 44.61 in the preliminary round, which goes down as the No. 5 time in program history.

Owen Hoeft was the final Gopher to put a mark on the program top 10 list. His 3:42.01 was a small personal best for the Golden Valley, Minn., native. It's Hoeft's second time making an impact on the top 10 this season after getting onto the top 10 in the 5000m just a few weeks ago.

Earning an event victory in the discus at the blue oval was Kaleb Siekmeier. The junior tossed his best throw of 54.67m (179-4) on his third attempt, edging Northern Iowa's Tom Yezek's 54.44m (178-7). Jake Kubiatowicz was able to finish fourth in the event as well, tossing a 53.44m just a day after he threw a similar mark at Simpson College just 19 miles away from Drake Stadium.

Alec Basten was the final winner for the Gophers at the Drake Relays. The graduate student won the 1500m unseeded section with a time of 3:43.64, which goes down as a personal best in the event for Basten.

Other notable results for the Maroon and Gold at the Drake Relays included the Hasz sisters finishing in the top eight of the 1500m with Bethany finishing at 4:18.97 to finish second overall. Anastasia Korzenowski was right behind Bethany in third at 4:21.49 with Megan in eighth at 4:23.62.

Minnesota picked up a total of seven other event victories at other meets throughout the weekend. Most notably Yahya Madar posted a new personal best mark in the high jump at the Kip Janvrin Invite at 2.03m (6-8).
