Last Time Out: Hayes Posts Fifth-Fastest 100m Hurdles Time
The University of Minnesota track and field program had 17 student-athletes compete at the 2022 Hamline Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday. Minnesota picked up five event victories across the men's and women's events, highlighted by Julia Hayes in the 100m hurdles. In her first outdoor action of the season Hayes made a big mark in the 100m hurdles, posting the fifth-fastest time in program history at 13.83. Hayes time goes down as the 10th fastest in the Big Ten this season and was good enough to earn her the meet record and a victory.
Frank, Zaltos Sweep B1G Field Athlete of the Week Honors
University of Minnesota sophomore Shelby Frank and redshirt sophomore Kostas Zaltos were honored by the Big Ten Conference for their performances at the ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. Frank launched a mark of 57.31m (188-0) to win the event which puts her third in the nation in the event and first among Big Ten throwers. Frank's mark also goes down as lifetime best and inches her closer to the school record held by Agness Esser (57.98m, 190-3) that was posted back in 2018. Kostas Zaltos had his best performance of the young outdoor season, launching the hammer 70.96m (232-9) mark in the hammer throw, finishing as the runner-up finisher at the ASU Invitational but was the top mark by a collegiate athlete. The mark ranks Zaltos third in the nation currently and is the 41st-farthest mark in the world this year and is the third best amongst athletes from Greece.
