Antoine Sale and Ben Warian Eyeing Top-20 Finishes
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – After an hour-long weather delay, the University of Minnesota men's golf team took the course today at Ackerman-Allen for the first two rounds of the Boilermaker Invitational. The Maroon and Gold sit in 9th place after shooting a 303(+19) in round one and a 296(+12) in round two.
The weather certainly played a factor today, as the temperature was in the mid-30's when play started. Despite that, junior Antoine Sale came out and led the Gophers through the first round, shooting 71(E) and finishing the first round tied for 7th. Sale followed his first round with a 74(+3) and will enter the final round in a tie for 20th.
Also entering the final round in a tie for 20th is sophomore Ben Warian. Warian shot a 75(+4) in round one and a 70(-1) in round two. Warian's second round was the low round of the day for the Gophers - he and Sale will be looking to cement top-20 finishes tomorrow.
Senior Lincoln Johnson, sophomore Alex Eickhoff (individual), and freshman Eduardo Galdos all cashed in an 80 (+9) in round one, and each performed the same or better in round two. Galdos shaved five strokes off his round one score, coming in with a 75(+4) in round two. Johnson finished round two with a 79(+8), and Eickhoff duplicated his first round performance with an 80(+9) in the second round. Senior Harry Plowman-Ollington shot a pair of 77s in the first two rounds and is entering the final round at +12.
The Gophers will return to Ackerman-Allen Golf Course tomorrow to play the final round of the Boilermaker Invitational. The third round is scheduled for 8 a.m. (CT)
