MINNEAPOLIS -- A pair of Minnesota track and field student-athletes were recognized Wednesday as recipients of the Big Ten's Sportsmanship Award. Kayla Vogt and Finn Schirmer were selected as the Maroon and Gold's representatives.
Kayla Vogt, a native of Hartland, Wisconsin, sits on the outdoor mile relay top 10 and served as an alternate on the mile relay at the 2021 NCAA outdoor championships. She's competed at four Big Ten Championships and has been honored twice by the conference academically. Schirmer most recently completed his best season with the Gophers yet. He helped the Gophers set a new 4x100m relay school record earlier this season and ran the fourht-fastest time in school history in the 100m at 10.37 at the 2022 Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis. Schirmer has qualified for this year's NCAA First Round held in Fayetteville, Ark., marking the second time he's qualified in his young career.
The Big Ten announced the 26 honorees named Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2021-22 academic year, with two selections per member school.
