Gophers Drop Road Contest to Mississippi State

Minnesota falls, 1-0, to Mississippi State

STARKVILLE – The University of Minnesota soccer team (0-3-1, 0-0-0 Big Ten) dropped a 1-0 decision to the Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-0-1, 0-0-0 SEC) on Sunday afternoon.

The Maroon and Gold were led by Alana Dressely and Izzy Brown who posted two shots on the day. Four other Gophers added a shot to the same category, leading Mississippi State, 8-7, in chances. Megan Plaschko recorded one save against the Bulldogs.

"I think this has been a really tough stretch for our group with three tough away games – certainly not the start we anticipated," said head coach Erin Chastain. "That being said, I believe in our group. We can find a way to bring more discipline into these moments. To keep it better or be more clinical with a final decision but maintain the competitive mentality. Then we will start to get results."

The Gophers and Bulldogs were tied offensively through the first 45 minutes. Both teams dished out four opportunities, but Mississippi State led in shots on goal, 2-1. Alongside a blocked shot, Plaschko kept the sheet clean, saving the lone chance the Bulldogs had.

An early goal eight minutes into the second half would decide the match. Mississippi State's Hannah Telleysh drove down the right sideline and delivered a cross to Maggie Wadsworth who finished. Minnesota reacted quickly, creating opportunities in the final third, but could not find a goal for the second game in a row.

The Gophers return home on Thursday for their next contest against the Drake Bulldogs. Kick off is at 1 p.m. CT and will be streamed live from Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium on B1G +.
