'U' Begins Rowing Season on Campus Saturday

42nd year of the Head of the Mississippi Regatta
MINNEAPOLIS - It's competition season for the University of Minnesota rowing team as it opens 2022-23 at the Head of the Mississippi Regatta Saturday, Oct. 1.
It'll be the 42nd year of the event along the Mississippi River as the Minneapolis Rowing Club hosts the regatta, which is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. for the first race involving the Gophers.
From Coach Strodel's Desk
"I'm excited that everyone on our team has the opportunity to race tomorrow on our home course, in front of our boathouse with our fans and family. Being so early in the season we're trying out a lot of combinations and seeing what works," Strodel said. "Look for some competitive intrasquad pair racing, our freshman representing Minnesota for the first time, and our seniors paying homage to their final home race."

The Gophers are set to compete two more times this fall, both of which are going to be scrimmages against bordering rivals Iowa (Oct. 21-22) and Wisconsin (Oct. 29). The spring portion of the schedule opens in late March during a trip to Bloomington, Ind., and continues with three more events before the Big Ten Championship May 14.
