Anderson, Brewster Lead the Way at UVA Pre-Nationals Meet

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota cross country teams competed at the XC23 Pre-Nationals Meet at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday morning with the women's team finishing 19th and the men finished 22nd.
 
The men's team was led by Emmet Anderson who finished 40th overall in a lifetime best 8K time of 24:02.9. Minnesota's women's team saw two individuals finish in the top 70 with Brianne Brewster finishing first in a time of 21:10.6 at the 6K distance to finish 63rd. Overall No. 6 BYU won the women's race with Arkansas and host Virginia rounded out the top three. The men's team that left Charlottesville, Va., victorious was No. 21 Arkansas with 35 team points while Tennessee was second and host Virginia was third.
 
Individually Ben Shearer was the men's champion in a time of 22:55.0 while Carmen Alder of BYU won the women's race in a time of 19:36.2.

WOMEN'S 6K
Without a pair of the team's top runners of Taylor Kreitinger and Erin Reidy the Maroon and Gold still held their own in one of the deepest meets of the season. Brianne Brewster was the top finisher in 63rd and was closely followed up by sophomore Ali Weimer who was 69th overall in a time of 21:13.4. Emma Atkinson was third on the team with a time of 21:34.2 while redshirt freshmen Zoie Dundon (21:39.4) and Caroline Mendyk (22:38.5) rounded out the top five for the Maroon and Gold.

MEN'S 8K
In total six different Gophers posted personal best times in Charlottesville, Va., with Anderson leading the way by dropping his time by about 28 seconds to finish 40th overall. Behind Anderson was Leo Goodmanin 86th, with a personal best time of 24:28.2, dropping over 30 seconds off of his previous best time. Redshirt freshman Dan VanAcker continued his strong season with his best time of his young career, 24:36.4, to cross the finish line third for the Maroon and Gold. Minnesota's top five was rounded out by Noah Kohut-Jackson (24:48.7) and Eli Hoeft (25:01.7)

UP NEXT
Minnesota's final regular season competition, Rocky's Run, will take place on October 21. The Maroon and Gold will then get set for the Big Ten Championships, which will take place in Madison, Wis., on October 27.
