MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota swimming and diving teams return to Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on Friday evening as they welcome St. Thomas and South Dakota State for a tri-dual meet.
Action starts at 5 p.m. and admission is free. A stream of the event can be found on B1G+ (paid subscription required), while live scoring will be available on GopherSports.com and the Meet Mobile app (paid subscription required).
The Gopher women, ranked No. 24 by the CSCAA, remain undefeated after last week's dual-meet win over SMU, 273-80.
Senior Megan Van Berkom paces the Gophers this year, posting the fastest times on the team in four events: 200 breast (2:17.19), 200 fly (1:58.66), 200 IM (2:01.48) and 400 IM (4:13.06). Last week, she was named Big Ten Women's Swimmer of the Week for her three-win performance at the Nebraska and South Dakota tri-dual.
The Gopher divers impressed against the Mustangs, as freshman YuTong Wang defended his Big Ten Diver of the Week honors by posting scores of 349.13 and 358.43 in the 3-meter and 1-meter dives, respectively. Freshman Elna Widerstrom took the title in the 3-meter dive with a 340.95 score, while also finishing with the top score in the 1-meter dive (303.83).
Davide Harabagiu, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week, collected two individual wins against SMU, taking the crown in the 100 fly and 100 free. The Rome, Italy native's performance in Dallas earned him Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.
The St. Thomas men sit at 1-2 to begin the season, beating Augustana (S.D.) 128-79 three weeks ago before falling to South Dakota 98-143 on Oct. 14. The Tommie women also are 1-2 this season, most recently falling to Augustana (S.D.) and South Dakota.
South Dakota State has started the season strong, as they've won two of their first three meets. The Jackrabbits prevailed over Augustana (S.D.) and Iowa Central in their first two meets of the year on both the men's and women's side.
