Gophers Fall 4-3 to Buckeyes in Overtime

The University of Minnesota women's hockey team fell in overtime to the Ohio State Buckeyes 3-4 on Friday night, suffering its first loss of the season.
Regulation proved not enough, as the closely-contested game went to overtime after 60 minutes of action yielded a 3-3 score. 1:39 into the five-minute overtime, Ohio State scored the game-winning goal to pick up the win.
Junior goaltender Skylar Vetter recorded a career-high 47 saves, besting her previous career high by four.
The Buckeyes scored just 24 seconds into the game, putting the Gophers in a one-goal deficit early on. Minnesota bounced back quickly, however, as Abbey Murphy scored roughly four minutes later to even things up at one. Ohio State recaptured the lead when a bouncing puck found the back with just over 90 seconds remaining in the opening period.
The second period was tightly contested all the way through, with neither team able to capitalize on their two power play opportunities.
The game picked up in the final frame, with the Gophers and Buckeyes trading goals before ending regulation at 3-3. Murphy netted her second goal of the game on a winding wrap-around score to even things up at three.
