STARTING FIVE
•  The University of Minnesota men's basketball team is back in action with its second Midwest Madness MTE game in three days when Arkansas-Pine Bluff comes to town Tuesday at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on Big Ten Network and broadcast on Gopher Radio Network. It marks the final game in this five-game home stand as Minnesota holds a 3-1 overall record.  The last time the Gophers had five-straight home games to start the season dates back to 2020-21 when Minnesota had six-straight and went 6-0 in that span.
•  The meeting between the Golden Gophers and the Golden Lions marks the second time in two years, as the Gophers are 1-0 in the all-time series. The two teams met for the first time ever on Dec. 14, 2022 as the Gophers established a 72-56 win at Williams Arena.  Braeden Carrington led Minnesota with a career-high 20 points, while Dawson Garcia finished with 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Carrington was 5-of-9 field goals, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, and 6-of-6 at the free throw line for his first collegiate 20-point game.
•  The Arkansas-Pine Bluff game also marks the second team from the SWAC to visit Williams Arena this season. The Gophers earned an 80-60 win over Bethune Cookman earlier this year. Minnesota is 11-0 all time vs. SWAC teams.
•  Through four games this season, Minnesota is averaging 79.3 points per game as a team, shooting 46.5 percent, 34.8 from three and 79.0 percent at the charity stripe. Those numbers better the Gophers' numbers through four games last season where Minnesota was averaging 63.5 ppg, shooting 44.6 percent and 54.3 percent at the free throw line. Defensively, Minnesota is averaging 42 rebounds per game compared to 37.5 a year ago this time.
•  Through four games this year, Minnesota ranks first in the Big Ten in free throws made and 10th nationally. The Gophers also rank fourth in the league in defensive rebounds and 28th nationally. Minnesota also ranks second in the Big Ten and 21st nationally in blocks per game.

LAST GAME RECAP
•  Minnesota won its third game of the 2023-2024 season with a 67-53 win over USC Upstate, Saturday at Williams Arena.
•  Nine Golden Gophers recorded a point in the win, led by Dawson Garcia with 14 points. Elijah Hawkins, Joshua Ola-Joseph, and Mike Mitchell Jr all followed with nine apiece. Pharrel Payne tied a career high four blocks, and added seven points and five rebounds.
•  Minnesota finished the game shooting 23-of-58 (.396) from the field, 16-of 19 (.842) from the free throw line and had a game-best 44 rebounds. Minnesota also produced 26 bench points to the Spartan's eight.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN LIONS
•  Arkansas-Pine Bluff is 3-2 overall this season, coming off an 100-81 loss to Incarnate Word Saturday night. UAPB opened the season against Missouri and fell, 101-79. The Golden Lions followed with three-straight wins before dropping the Saturday tilt.
•  Four individuals average double-digit points: Kylen Milton averages a team-best 23.8 points, followed by Rashad Williams (18.8), Joe French (17.2) and Lonnell Martin (17.2). Jyre McCloud holds a team-best 6 rebounds per game, while also holds a team-best 16 assists and 10 steals.
•  As a team, UAPB averages 94.6 ppg, allows 85 per game and is shooting 49.7 from the field, including 42 beyond the arc. They also have 45 steals this season.

ON THE DOCKET
•  Minnesota hits the road for the first time in this young season when it travels to San Francisco to play the Dons at the Chase Center. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. CT start and will be televised on CBSSN.
•  Mike Grimm and Al Nolen will provide the radio broadcast on Gopher Radio Network and KTLK 1130 AM/103.5 FM.
