Third Period Surge Powers Gophers Past Mavericks

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's hockey team secured a 3-1 victory against the Minnesota State Mavericks on Friday night, the Gophers' sixth win of the season.
Redshirt junior Abbey Murphy continued her dominant start to the season, scoring a goal in the second period to tie the game up at one.
Minnesota State scored just 71 seconds into the game, putting Minnesota in a deficit early on. The game was tied at the second intermission, creating a tense final 20 minutes of the contest.
It was sophomore Nelli Laitinen and freshman Ava Lindsay who put the finishing touches on the Gophers' win, as they each found the back of the net in the third period to push the Maroon and Gold to a win.
Lucy Morgan stood tall in net for Minnesota, registering 33 saves and allowing just one goal. Friday's win marks Morgan's third victory between the pipes this season.

"Happy with the three points and finding a way to win tonight," head coach Brad Frost said. "It certainly wasn't pretty, and we have to be better. We have to move our feet better, support pucks better and overall have to do a better job. We're happy with the win, but also looking forward to tomorrow to see if we can correct some of the mistakes we made tonight."
