Gophers Thrive in 500 Free and 200 IM on Day Two of Minnesota Invite

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota swimming and diving programs compiled 16 personal records and eight 'B' cuts during the finals of day two at the Minnesota Invite on Thursday.
Senior Megan Van Berkom finished second in the 500 Free final with a time of 4:42.63, good for a personal record and a 'B' cut. Freshman Katie McCarthy followed right behind, finishing third (4:44.79) and securing a personal best and a 'B' cut as well. Eliot Kennedy came in fifth (4:45.53), also earning a personal record as well as a 'B' cut.
The Gopher women earned two more personal records in the 500 free, as Anja Kaljevic (4:48.14) and Jade Roghair (4:52.71) each set new personal bests with their performances in Thursday's final.
The women also found success in the 200 IM, with Grace Drabot (2:00.16), Brigitta Neverman (2:02.61), Indy Jongman (2:02.69), Claire Reinke (2:02.96), Elise Jacobs (2:05.03) and Ava Gustafson (2:05.94) each recording a personal record in the event. Drabot led the way with a fourth-place finish.
On the men's side, freshman Ryan Slonac set a new personal record with a time of 1:47.40 in the 200 IM, while senior Kaiser Neverman earned a 'B' cut at 1:45.97.
Bar Soloveychik captured a 'B' cut in the 500 Free final with a time of 4:18.37, earning him a second-place finish. William Christenson finished fifth after posting a time of 4:22.69.
The 50 Free also yielded personal bests and 'B' cuts, as Morgan Thomas (22.66) and Hannah Cornish (22.64) secured 'B' cuts while Connor Groya (20.08), Lovro Serdarevic (20.19) and Davide Harabagiu (19.76) all also set new personal records.
The Gopher women's 'A' team finished fifth with a time of 1:30.12 in the 200 free relay, while the 'B' squad came in 12th (1:34.71). The men's 'A' group finished fifth as well (1:18.99), while the 'B' team came in eighth (1:20.22) and the 'C' squad finished 13th with a time of 1:22.25.
In the diving well, Av Osero (293.05) and Vivi Del Angel (290.85) claimed the top two spots in the women's 1-meter, while YuTong Wang (397.60) and Drew Bennett (354.00) earned first and second place for the men's 3-meter.
Action continues tomorrow on day three of the Minnesota Invite with prelims starting at 10 a.m., diving at approximately 1 p.m. and finals set to begin at 6 p.m. Scheduled for Friday is the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast and 100 Back.
