Gophers Score Five in First Period, Complete Sweep of Beavers

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's hockey team scored nine goals in a game for the second straight night en route to a 9-1 victory over Bemidji State on Saturday.
A five-goal effort in the opening frame set the tone for the Gophers, with five different players finding the back of the net in the first 20 minutes of play. Sadie Lindsay scored her first goal as a Gopher, which opened the scoring for Minnesota.

Redshirt junior Abbey Murphy recorded five points in the game, including two goals and three assists. The Evergreen Park, Ill. native now sits just one point shy of 100 career points.
Eight Gophers recorded two or more points on Saturday, with Murphy and junior Peyton Hemp each scoring two goals. Ella Huber scored once and also added two assists.
Fifth-year goaltender Lucy Morgan started in net for the Gophers and recorded 11 saves in the win.
Both of the Lindsay sisters found the back of the net in the opening frame, with Sadie Lindsay's goal coming just over halfway through the period. Ava Lindsay then followed with a goal of her own with roughly five minutes remaining.
Three other Gophers also scored in the first period, with Josefin Bouveng, Peyton Hemp and Nelli Laitinen each lighting the lamp once.
Minnesota followed up their five-goal period with a three-goal period, leading 8-0 after the first 40 minutes of play. Murphy scored two goals in the second period, her 18th and 19th of the season.
The Maroon and Gold found the back of the net once more in the final frame, as Huber scored off assists from Murphy and fifth-year Solveig Neunzert.
