Hooten Named Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week For Second Consecutive Week

MINNEAPOLIS – Junior Mya Hooten of the University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team has earned Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week honors once again, marking the second time in as many weeks, the conference announced Wednesday.
Hooten and the Gophers traveled to Iowa City for a clash with the Hawkeyes on Jan. 27, during which the now six-time Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week recorded scores of 9.875 on bars, 9.900 on vault and 9.975 on floor. The Woodbury, Minn. native steadily progressed as the meet went on, increasing her event scores from event to event.
She's scored no lower than 9.875 in the last two competitions, as her scores of 9.900 on vault, 9.925 and 9.950 on floor against Penn State on Jan. 21 also earned her Event Specialist of the Week honors in week three.
Hooten and the Maroon and Gold welcome the Illinois Fighting Illini to Maturi Pavilion for a 4 p.m. showdown on Saturday, Feb. 4.
