Wisconsin Takes Extra Conference Point in Series-Opening Tie

Tonight's crowd of 3,593 was the largest for a single game in Ridder Arena history.
MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 3 Gopher Women's hockey team dominated the third period and overtime but settled for a tie against the No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin secured the extra conference point in the shootout.
For the first time since November, Minnesota (23-4-3) found themselves behind to open a game. Wisconsin (21-8-2) opened the scoring 8:18 into the first behind a redirected shot from Katie Kotlowski. Abbey Murphy responded 2:34 later with her 21st goal of the season to tie the game.
The Badgers outshot the Gophers 17-7 in the middle frame and took a one-goal lead into the third after Jesse Compher scored just under halfway through the period.
Minnesota responded in a big way, outshooting Wisconsin 21-5 in the third period. Taylor Heise's 21st goal of the season sent the game to overtime. After a scoreless extra frame, Wisconsin's Britta Curl scored the lone shootout goal to secure the extra point.
Skylar Vetter made 28 saves in the tie. Her record is now 20-4-3 on the season. Wisconsin's Cami Kronish stopped 40 shots.

"A very entertaining game for the fans with the overtime and shootout," said head coach Brad Frost. "We're proud of our team for the way they battled back in the third. We had some lapses in the second period that cost us a little bit. We had a lot of pressure in the third and overtime, but couldn't find the winning goal."

• With one assist today, Grace Zumwinkle is now in sole possession of 10th place in program history in points (196).
