U Improves by Nine Shots, Remains in Seventh Place

McCauley leads Gophers individually, is tied for 19th individually
The University of Minnesota women's golf team wrapped up round two of the Nexus Collegiate today. The Gophers shot a 12-over-par 300 on Tuesday, which was a nine-shot improvement from Monday.Ā
After 36 holes, Minnesota is in seventh place with a team score of 609. The unranked Gophers are ahead of No. 11 Ole Miss (617), No. 19 Duke (621) and No. 33 TCU (622).Ā
Second-ranked Wake Forest took the lead from No. 16 Auburn on Tuesday with a team score of even-par 576.Ā

"Another solid day overall but we know we still need to tighten it up coming in," said coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "We're so close to piecing together a really good round and I am excited to have another opportunity tomorrow to watch this team compete."
Notable:
Isabella McCauley finished the front nine one-under par with two birdies and six pars. The freshman penciled in a 76 (+4) and is tied for 19th.
Emma Carpenter carded three birdies today, two of which came back-to-back on holes 15 and 16. Carpenter finds herself tied for 21st after shooting a 79 (+7).
Luisamariana Mesones finished today with an impressive 1-under-par 71. Her twelve pars and four birdies moved her up 17 places and she is now tied for 25th after 36 holes.
Grace Curran, now tied for 41st, notched two birdies and one eagle on her way to a round of 74 (+2). Her eagle on hole six makes her one of just four players in the tournament to achieve this feat.
Junrui Chi, who played her second round ever as a Gopher, finished with an 84 (+12). With eight pars and one birdie, she is tied for 57th.
Competing as an individual, Leah Herzog shot an 81 (+9) and is tied alongside teammate Chi in 57th.

The final round of play at the Nexus Collegiate will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 15. McCauley will tee off first for the Gophers at 6:45 a.m. CT.
