Gophers Fall to Gauchos, 13-2

SURPRISE, Ariz. --Though they had plenty of opportunities, Minnesota had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 13 Golden Gophers on base in a 13-2 loss at the hands of the UCSB Gauchos on Sunday.
Sophomore Sam Malec (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Minnesota (0-3) despite striking out a career-high six hitters in 5.0 innings.
In the batter's box, the Golden Gophers were paced by sophomore Jake Larson, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a two-run home run. Freshman Sam Hunt hit a triple while junior Brett Bateman also contributed for Minnesota, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers were trailing 3-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board with the Larson home run. The Golden Gophers were unable to get any closer, as UCSB added 10 runs to their tally on the way to a 13-2 final. The Gauchos led 5-2 after the sixth inning before adding eight runs in the final three frames to break it open.
