Minnesota Tops Maryland For Conference Road Win

The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team claimed victory over the Maryland Terrapins by a score of 196.800 to 196.650 on Sunday afternoon in College Park, Md.

Notable
Junior Gianna Gerdes stole the show with a career-high 9.950 on floor, one of three Gophers that scored above 9.900 in the event.

All eyes were on junior Mya Hooten once again as she took to the floor, earning a score of 9.950 from the judges. Senior Halle Remlinger continued her dominance on floor as well, finishing with a 9.925.

Redshirt senior Maddie Quarles earned a season-high 9.925 on vault on Sunday, which earned her the event title.

"The team continues to make improvements each and every week," head coach Jenny Hansen said. "We hit 24 for 24 routines for the first time all season and just look to keep building into next weekend's BIG 5 meet."

Event Breakdown
BARS
The Golden Gophers started their day on bars, during which Hooten led the team with a score of 9.850. Fifth-year senior Tiarre Sales, Remlinger and sophomore Marissa Jencks each scored 9.825 in the event. Gerdes and freshman Seria Johnson rounded out the Minnesota lineup with scores of 9.800.

VAULT
The Maroon and Gold's rotation on vault was highlighted by Quarles' season-high 9.925, which was the top score on vault at XFINITY Center on Sunday. Gerdes added a 9.875 on vault to her all-around score of 39.325, followed closely by Jencks who scored a 9.850 in the event. Hooten earned a score of 9.825, and Remlinger and freshman Sarah Moraw each scored 9.800 to form a team score of 49.275 for Minnesota.

FLOOR
Gerdes delivered a show-stopping performance on floor, a performance that reset her career high. She scored a 9.950, tying for the event title. Gerdes tied with her teammate, Hooten, who also scored a 9.950. Remlinger has been as consistent as they come on floor this season as she scored 9.925, the seventh time she's scored 9.900 or higher in 2023. Johnson took to the floor and earned a score of 9.850, while fellow freshman Moraw made her collegiate debut on floor with a score of 9.825. Jencks also scored a 9.825 in her leadoff spot for the Gophers.

BEAM
Taking the top spot on the beam for Minnesota was junior Emily Koch and Sales, who each scored a 9.850. Freshman Brooklyn Rowray returned to beam and earned a score of 9.800, as sophomore Lauren Pearl and Gerdes scored 9.700. Moraw rounded out the beam lineup with a score of 9.650.
