Minnesota Earns Seventh-Straight Win Over Jackrabbits, No. 23/RV Shockers

The Gophers hit four homers and outscored their opponents 14-7
GAME ONE
WICHITA, Kan. - It was a tough day for South Dakota State pitchers, as the Minnesota Golden Gophers scored nine runs en route to a 9-5 victory over the Jackrabbits on Friday.
Senior Bri Enter (1-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Minnesota (17-9). The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits.
Sophomore Kayla Chavez led the way offensively for the Gophers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and three RBI. Freshman Jess Oakland compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Graduate Amani Bradley also contributed, going 1-for-3 for Minnesota with a triple, a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Minnesota's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run triple off the bat of Bradley.
The Gophers then held the Jackrabbits scoreless before expanding their lead in the sixth inning. The Minnesota offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Oakland and a two-run double from Chavez, which brought the score to 9-3 in favor of the Gophers. South Dakota State put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minnesota still coasted to the 9-5 win.

WICHITA, Kan. - Graduate Natalie DenHartog put together a brilliant performance at the plate Friday, hitting two homers to help propel the Minnesota Golden Gophers past the No. 23 Wichita State Shockers 5-2.
Senior Autumn Pease (11-3) got the win out of the bullpen for Minnesota (18-9). The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up one hit, no walks and striking out two.
DenHartog went 3-for-4 at the plate, supplementing her two home runs with three RBIs. Freshman Breezy Burnett added to DenHartog's awesome power-hitting performance by going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Freshman Jess Oakland also chipped in for the Gophers, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Minnesota plated two runs when DenHartog left the yard with Oakland aboard.
The Gophers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the third inning after the Shockers cut it to 2-1. Minnesota picked up a run on Burnett's leadoff home run off of junior Lauren Howell, which brought the Gophers lead to 3-1.
Minnesota held Wichita State without a run before building their lead to 5-1 the following inning. Minnesota scored two runs, including one on a solo homer off the bat of DenHartog. Wichita State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minnesota still held on for the 5-2 win.
