'U' Readies for Two Tournament Road Trip to Wichita State, Oklahoma State

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota softball team is set to face four opponents in two locations over the weekend. On Friday, the Gophers will compete at Wichita State against the RV Shockers and South Dakota State Jack Rabbits. In a quick turnaround, Minnesota will travel and face No. 2/2 Oklahoma State and No. 22/RV Arizona State.
Scouting South Dakota State
15-12 overall, the Jack Rabbits have faced a competitive schedule, including games against Oklahoma State, Stanford, Oklahoma, and Baylor. Mia Jarecki and Emma Osmundson lead SDSU, holding the top two spots in the lineup, hitting .350 through 25 games. Both lead The Summit League in total hits with 28.
Scouting Wichita State
With only a four game history, the Shockers and Gophers hold a 2-2 record against one another. The most recent match up was last season, with Wichita State winning 4-0.
Scouting Arizona State
The Sun Devils enter the weekend with a top 25 ranking and a 16-5 record. Before competing against the Gophers, Arizona State has contests against UCF and No. 2 Oklahoma State. The last time the two teams faced off was last season, when the Gophers defeated the Sun Devils 7-5.
Scouting Oklahoma State
After picking up a mid-week win over Central Arkansas on Wednesday, the second-ranked host Cowgirls seek to continue their successful season at their host tournament. Oklahoma's only two losses came against Maryland and No. 5/6 Florida State.
Big Ten Pitcher of the Week
Fifth year senior Autumn Pease was awarded Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for her performance at the Gopher Indoor Classic, the conference office announced on Monday.
Pease, who earns her second career weekly honor, tossed three dominant wins this past weekend. The Murrieta, Calif., native pitched 15 innings through three games while not allowing a single earned run against her. The kinesiology major totaled 27 strikeouts and one walk with five hits against her from opposing batters. Pease's performance contributed to Minnesota's 5-0 undefeated weekend at the Gopher Indoor Classic.
Big Ten Honors
Minnesota is the only school in the Big Ten that's had a weekly honoree in each category. Jess Oakland won Freshman of the Week on Feb. 13. Taylor Krapf won Player of the Week on Feb. 27, and Autumn Pease won Pitcher of the Week on March 13.
A Weekend of Firsts
Two veteran Gophers hit their first home run over the weekend at the Gopher Indoor Classic. During her first career at-bat, Clare Ceynowa hit Maddy Ehlke hit hers against.
Undefeated at Home
Making an appearance in Minneapolis for the first time this season at the Gopher Indoor Classic, the Golden Gophers swept all five opponents last weekend and out-scored them 28-3.
Home Run Heroes
Minnesota tallied six home runs last weekend between five Gophers. Freshman Jess Oakland led the way with two, while Maddy Ehlke, Kayla Chavez, Breezy Burnett, and Clare Ceynowa all had one.
Walk Off Winner in Minneapolis
After trailing for three innings, sophomore Kayla Chavez stepped up to the plate. In a dramatic finish, Chavez hit a walk-off two RBI home run to win the game. Chavez's walk-off marks the first since Sydney Strelow on April 14, 2022 against South Dakota State.
The Circle
With phenomenal performances in the circle, Autumn Pease and Jacie Hambrick both picked up wins, while holding a 0.00 ERA over their opponents. Each shutout at least one team and allowed only nine hits through five games.
