Gophers Fall to No. 15 Tigers, Down Titans in Extras

GAME ONE
FULLERTON, Calif. - The Minnesota Golden Gophers were not able to notch a run against LSU pitcher freshman Sydney Berzon on Saturday and were shut out 3-0 by the No. 15 Tigers.
Junior Jacie Hambrick (4-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Minnesota (9-7). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out four. Freshman Sydney Schwartz was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.
Freshman Addison Leschber led the way offensively for the Gophers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minnesota did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Gophers went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the seventh, when Leschber made it into scoring position with one out.

GAME TWO
FULLERTON, Calif. -Â Fifth year Autumn Pease dominated on Saturday night, fanning 14 CSU Fullerton hitters over 11 innings of work to help lead Minnesota past the Titans 7-4.
In addition to her 14 strikeouts, Pease (6-3) went 11 innings, giving up four runs, one earned, on six hits and walking two for Minnesota (10-7).
At the plate, the Gophers were paced by sophomore Kayla Chavez, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a home run and five RBI. Senior Natalie DenHartog compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Breezy Burnett also contributed for Minnesota, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers were trailing 1-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Chavez drove in two runs for Minnesota with a single, that scored senior Amani Bradley and freshman Jess Oakland.
The Titans then tied the ballgame at two before the Gophers came back to reclaim their advantage in the eighth inning. Minnesota pushed across a run on DenHartog's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Gophers.
CSU Fullerton fired back to even the ballgame at three before Minnesota reclaimed a 4-3 advantage in the ninth inning. The Gophers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Delanie Cox.
The Titans then evened up the ballgame at four before Minnesota came back to retake their advantage in the eleventh inning. The inning resulted in three runs for the Gophers, all of them scoring on a three-run homer from Chavez to left, bringing the score to 7-4 in favor of Minnesota. The score remained 7-4 for the rest of the game, as the Gophers held on for the win.
