The Golden Gophers lost 4-1 to the Iowa Hawkeyes’ Sunday afternoon at Baseline Tennis Center.
Minneapolis– The University of Minnesota tennis program (5-7 overall, 0-1 Big Ten) dropped 4-1 to Iowa (5-5 overall, 0-0 Big Ten) at Baseline Tennis Center on Sunday.
Iowa earned a 1-0 lead in the match after winning second position doubles. At No. 2, Anet Koskel and Aiva Schmitz fell 2-6 to Iowa's pairing Samantha Mannix and Marisa Schmidt. In the first position, Gophers duo Zoey Weil and Zeyneb Sarioglan versus Hawkeyes' pairing Vipasha Mehra and Daianne Hayashida was abandoned at 4-3.
In singles, Iowa earned points at the fifth and sixth positions as Minnesota did not have enough competitors to field the positions. Sarioglan edged out Iowa's Vipasha Mehra 6-1, 6-4, in the third position. At No. 4, Aiva Schmitz fell 4-6, 2-6 Hawkeyes' Daianne Hayashida, claiming Iowa the victory.
