SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State's two-run third proved to be the difference in the ballgame, as the Minnesota Golden Gophers lost a heartbreaker to the Aztecs by the score of 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Junior Jacie Hambrick (4-4) got the ball to start for Minnesota (11-9) and took the loss. Fifth year Autumn Pease was a bright spot for the Gophers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits, with no walks and six strikeouts.

Graduate Natalie DenHartog led the way offensively for the Maroon and Gold, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Senior Delanie Cox compiled a standout performance as well, going 1-for-2 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. DenHartog put Minnesota on the board with a one-out solo home run off junior Allie Light. The Gophers were unable to hold the lead, as San Diego State scored two times over the remaining four innings to grab the 2-1 win.

GAME NOTES
» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed one run across.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 25 San Diego State hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and three fly balls while striking out eight.
» DenHartog led the Gophers at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI.
» San Diego State was led offensively by junior Jillian Celis, who went 3-for-3.
» Light led the Aztecs pitching staff, throwing four innings of one-run ball.

Minnesota will return to Minneapolis this weekend as it hosts the Gopher Indoor Classic at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Gophers will face NDSU, Central Michigan, Idaho State, Drake, and St. Thomas March 10-12.
