MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota women punched two more tickets to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday on the second day of the Zone D Diving Championships.

One day after earning a spot on the 3-meter, fifth-year senior Joy Zhu did the same on the 1-meter, while junior Av Osero earned a trip to the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career.

Zhu was second in the prelims after recording a score of 314.75 and she ultimately placed third as her effort in the finals of 320.08 gave her a 12-dive total of 635.55.

For Osero, she was tied for eighth through the prelims holding a score of 282.80. Needing to finish in the top nine to advance to the NCAAs, the Neenah, Wis., native was 14th midway through the finals. She then rattled off three straight dives in the 50s to move back up the leaderboard, including 50.0 exactly on the last dive of the finals to clinch the ninth spot with a total score of 573.85.Ā

Also reaching the finals was junior Megan Phillip. She was 10th through the prelims at 275.95 and placed 12th overall at 561.20.

In the prelims, freshman Addie Albrecht came in 26th with a score of 243.40, while fellow freshman Vivi Del Angel was 29th at 237.95 and sophomore Kate LaMonica's performance of 226.50 earned her 34th place.

On the men's side, freshman Andrew Bennett nearly qualified for the 3-meter but ultimately finished one spot back. He was 11th through the prelims with a score of 359.35, and nearly duplicated it in the finals with a performance of 358.25. His 12-dive total of 717.60 put him 10th, one spot and less than five points out of qualification.

The Zone Diving Championships conclude Thursday with platform diving for both men and women. Results can be found on DiveMeets.com and B1G+ will stream the event for free.
