Maroon and Gold at Virginia, LSU This Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Golden Gophers track and field team is back in action after 13 days away from Division I competition when they compete at the Virginia Challenge and the LSU Alumni Gold from April 21-22. Minnesota
About the 2023 LSU Alumni Gold
The meet in Baton Rouge will see a majority of Minnesota's team compete at Bernie Moore Stadium. The day will begin at 10:30 a.m. CT for Minnesota with the women's hammer throw and will conclude around 6:00 p.m. CT with the men's 4x400m relay. The LSU Alumni Gold will not have a live stream available to watch. Live results will also be available via FlashResults.com.
About the 2023 Virginia Challenge
The Gophers will primarily send their distance crew to the Virginia Challenge that begins on Thursday with the multis and concludes on Saturday. Minnesota's first scheduled competition is set for Friday at 5:15 p.m. CT with the men's 3000m steeplechase. The Maroon and Gold will also compete on Saturday with the latest individual entry being the women's 800m at 1:20 p.m. CT. The Virginia Challenge is scheduled to be streamed by ACCNX on Friday and Saturday and can be accessed via ESPN.com and through the ESPN app. Live results will also be available via FlashResults.com.

Last Time Out: Gophers Show Out in Tucson
The University of Minnesota women's track team broke two school records on April 8 in Tucson, Ariz., at the Jim Click Shootout.The returning All-American 4x100m relay crew of Odell Frye, Lauren Hansen, Akilah Lewis and Amira Young clocked a time of 43.88 to win the event in Arizona and became the first quartet to go below 44 seconds in program history. The second school record of the day for the Maroon and Gold came when Amira Young broke her own 200m record in a time of 23.10 (+0.1 m/s wind).\Young also was the winner of the 100m on Saturday, posting a lifetime best of 11.25 (+0.8 m/s wind), which went down as the No. 2 time in school history.

Last Time Out: Buchanan, 4x100m Relay Break School Records in Tucson
The majority of the Golden Gopher men's track and field team last competed at the Jim Click Shootout on April 8. First-year Gopher Michael Buchanan clocked a 13.78 (+0.8 m/s wind) to finish as the meet runner-up. Buchanan's record broke his own time of 13.84 that he set earlier this season. The men's 4x100m relay team matched the women's school-record performance with one of their own. The team of Devin Augustine, Kion Benjamin, Finn Schirmer and Carlon Hosten were clean and posted a time of 39.39 to finish second overall. As of April 8, the time is the 14th-best in the country and is the No. 2 time in the Big Ten.
The Gophers in the Rankings
The University of Minnesota men's track and field team's hammer group is still ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). As an overall team the Maroon and Gold came in at No. 22 in the country after a majority of the men's team was idle last weekend.
Up Next:
Minnesota is scheduled to return home on April 26 for the Running on Hope Open at the University of Minnesota Track and Field Stadium. The team will also compete at the Drake Relays from April 27-29, in Des Moines, Iowa.
