Gophers Gashed 18-0 in Game Two at Nebraska

Game three is set for tomorrow at 1 p.m.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Nebraska Cornhuskers blanked the Minnesota Golden Gophers 18-0 on Saturday to even the weekend series.

Sophomore George Klassen (1-6) got the ball to start for Minnesota (12-29, 5-9 Big Ten) and took the loss despite striking out six in 5.0 innings of work.

The Huskers led 5-0 before scoring 12 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to break the game open.

At the plate, the Golden Gophers were paced by junior Boston Merila, who went 3-for-3 on the day. Freshman Kris Hokenson put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-3 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Huskers compiled 19 hits, including four home runs, in their 18-0 victory over the Gophers.

Minnesota did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Golden Gophers went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the seventh, when Hokenson made it into scoring position with two outs.

GAME NOTES
» Merila led the Golden Gophers, picking up three base hits in the ballgame. He kept his 21-game on-base streak going.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 51 Nebraska hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and five fly balls while striking out eight.
» Nebraska was led offensively by junior Max Anderson, who went 4-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI.
» Jace Kaminska led the Cornhuskers pitching staff, throwing seven shutout innings.

Minnesota (12-29, 5-9 Big Ten) and Nebraska (23-16-1, 8-6 Big Ten) square off in the series rubber match tomorrow at 1 p.m. on B1G+.
