Gophers Rally for Walk-Off Winner, Breaks Indiana's 23 Game Win Streak

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Minnesota Golden Gophers rallied to score one in the seventh inning and walked it off with freshman Jess Oakland at the plate to pick up the 6-5 win over the Indiana Hoosiers Friday.
Senior Autumn Pease (15-6) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minnesota (22-15, 3-5). The right-hander went one shutout inning without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out two. Freshman Sydney Schwartz also made an impact in the circle for the Golden Gophers, throwing 2.2 shutout innings while allowing two hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
At the plate, the Golden Gophers were paced by Oakland, who went 3-for-3 on the day with two home runs and four RBI. Graduate Natalie DenHartog put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Taylor Krapf also contributed for Minnesota, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Oakland put Minnesota on the board with a leadoff home run off sophomore Heather Johnson.
The Hoosiers then rallied to score five runs and take a 5-1 lead before the Golden Gophers got back on the board in the fourth. Minnesota scored twice on Oakland's two-run homer, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Hoosiers.
Minnesota held the Hoosiers off the board before narrowing the gap to 5-4 in the fifth. The Golden Gophers picked up a run on DenHartog's two-out RBI double.
Minnesota kept the Hoosiers off the board before tying it up in the sixth. Oakland crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Golden Gophers, evening the score at 5-5.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, when Minnesota walked it off when sophomore Kayla Chavez came across to score.
