MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Minnesota Golden Gophers broke through after a 5-5 tie in the fifth inning to knock off the Indiana Hoosiers 8-5 Sunday.

Senior Autumn Pease (16-6) started in the circle and picked up the win for Minnesota (23-15,4-5). The right-hander went five innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out five.

Junior Maddy Ehlke led the way offensively for the Golden Gophers, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple and four RBI. Sophomore Kayla Chavez furnished a standout effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI. Sophomore Taylor Krapf also contributed, going 1-for-2 for Minnesota with two walks and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Chavez put Minnesota on the board with a leadoff home run off sophomore Brianna Copeland.

The Hoosiers then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-1 lead before the Golden Gophers got back on the board in the second. Senior Amani Bradley's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Minnesota scored twice, which evened the score at 3-3.

Indiana busted up the tie and took a 5-3 lead moving into the fifth, when Minnesota tied the game at five. Krapf's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Golden Gophers.

The game stayed tied until the very next inning, when Minnesota got going again on offense. Ehlke's triple pushed all three runs across for the Golden Gophers in the frame, bringing the Minnesota advantage to 8-5. The score remained 8-5 for the rest of the game, as the Golden Gophers held on for the win.
