The redshirt junior has been honored twice this season by the conference.

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota redshirt junior Kostas Zaltos has been honored by the Big Ten Conference for his performance at the 113th Drake Relays last weekend.

In Des Moines Zaltos claimed a victory in the men's hammer throw with a record-breaking performance. The Kilikis, Greece, native tossed a school-record mark of 75.27m (246-11) on his second attempt of the competition, breking Sean Donnelly's 2016 record of 74.35m (243-11). Zaltos' performance goes down as the No. 1 mark in the NCAA in the event this season (as of May 3) and is the No. 10 mark in the world this year according to the IAAF. His performance is the top mark by any Greek athlete this year in the event and makes Zaltos the 17th college male to throw 75.27m or further ever and broke the Drake Relays record in the 113th year of the event.

For Zaltos, it's his third career weekly honor for the two-time NCAA bronze medalist. Zaltos will look to win his third straight hammer throw Big Ten title at the 2023 Big Ten Outdoor Championships that are scheduled to begin on May 12 in Bloomington, Ind.
