MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's hockey team dropped its Friday-night matchup with Ohio State 7-0 at Ridder Arena.
The Buckeyes scored four goals in the opening frame, setting the tone for the night. They added three more goals in the final two periods to take the opening matchup of a top-2 ranked series against the Gophers.
Saturday's series finale will provide Minnesota a chance to bounce back and work toward a split against Ohio State.
Fifth-year goaltender Lucy Morgan started in net for Minnesota, but was subbed out for junior Skylar Vetter after 16 minutes of play. Morgan finished with five saves while Vetter finished with 21.
Joy Dunne registered a hat trick for the Buckeyes, scoring twice in the first period and once in the second. Hannah Bilka scored twice and goaltender Raygan Kirk logged 20 saves in net.

"Not a lot of good to talk about after this one, but we'll watch some video, turn the page, and try to get a split. We're looking forward to that opportunity tomorrow," head coach Brad Frost said.
