Minnesota Drops Series Finale to Ohio State, 6-1

1/13/2024 5:18:00 PM | Women's Hockey

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's hockey team fell to Ohio State 6-1 on Saturday at Ridder Arena, clinching a sweep for the Buckeyes.

The game was scoreless after 20 minutes of play, as the Gophers and Buckeyes entered the second period with an even score. However, Ohio State scored five times in the second frame to take control of the contest.

Junior goaltender Skylar Vetter started the game in net for Minnesota, making 27 saves through two periods. Lucy Morgan entered the game for the final frame and saved six shots.

The game stood 0-0 after the first period, with neither team able to capitalize on powerplay opportunities. The Buckeyes converted on a Gopher penalty on two occasions in the second, in addition to three even-strength goals.

Six different Buckeyes scored on Saturday, one of which came from Hannah Bilka, who scored twice on Friday evening.

Quotable
"Tonight was similar to last night in that they scored quickly and gained momentum quickly," head coach Brad Frost said. "When you play such a good team it's hard to come back from that. I'm proud of how we came out in the third, proud of how we played and competed, but it was hard to overcome our second period."

Notable
- Minnesota is swept in a regular season home series for the first time since Oct. 1-2, 2021
- Gophers lose consecutive games for just the second time this season
- Madison Kaiser scores her fourth goal of the season
- Minnesota moves to 82-28-6 in matchups with Ohio State
