Gopher Men and Women Win Pittsburgh Dual

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota men's and women's swim and dive teams finished the Pittsburgh dual with wins over the Panthers. The men edged Pittsburgh 155-145 while the women won 177-123.

The Gophers found success in the diving well with the women sweeping the 3-meter and going 1-2 in the 1-meter. Vivi Del Angel scored a 317.93 in the 3-meter to take the crown. Senior Av Osero collected two personal best dives for the day, scoring a 303.38 in the 3-meter to take second and a 313.13 on the 1-meter to place first. Megan Phillip scored a 302.63 to round out the top-three on the 3-meter and Addie Albrecht placed second in the 1-meter with a 302.33.

YuTong Wang finished second in both the 1-meter (384.00) and 3-meter (400.28) followed by teammate Drew Bennett who finished third in both events with a 356.63 in the 1-meter and 365.10 in the 3-meter.

The Minnesota men's and women's long-distance crews swept both the 500 free and the 1000 free. Katie McCarthy won both events with times of 4:57.23 (500 free) and 10:04.92 (1000 free). Eliot Kennedy took second in both with times of 4:59.57 (500 free) and 10:12.63 (1000 free). Anja Kaljevic placed third in the 500 free with a time of 5:01.29 while Katia Soudakova placed third in the 1000 free with a time of 10:22.31.

William Christenson won the men's 1000 free (9:15.67) and placed second in the 500 free (4:33.78). Junior Bar Soloveychik won the 500 free (4:28.34) and finished second in the 1000 free (9:32.41). Jackson Brown finished third in both events with times of 4:39.06 (500 free) and 9:34.93 (1000 free). 

Kaiser Neverman and Megan Van Berkom each won three individual events. Neverman finished the 200 fly in 1:44.92, the 100 free in 43.68 and the 200 IM in 1:46.14 to secure victories for the Gophers. Van Berkom swam the 200 fly in 1:58.81, the 200 breast in 2:18.21 and the 200 IM in 2:02.84 for her individual wins.

Other victories on the day came from Mina Kaljevic (1:50.25) and Soloveychik (1:37.27) in the 200 free, Morgan Thomas (50.73) in the 100 free and Davide Harabagiu (48.33) in the 100 fly. The women's 400 free relay team of Thomas, Hannah Cornish, M. Kaljevic and Ava Yablonski also touched the wall in first for Minnesota with a time of 3:25.23.

Tomorrow's meet will be a long-course time trial beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
